Luke lays into TPC Boston re-design

Donald the latest to fall victim of the tweeting-a-private-message gaffe

If you’re familiar with Twitter, you’ll know just how dangerous it can be.

A quick Google search returns all kinds of hilarious results. Who can forget Charlie Sheen tweeting his mobile phone number to his eight million followers? Or singer Hayley Williams accidentally tweeting a picture of herself topless?

(My favourite, just for the record, is talkSPORT presenter Sam Matterface’s intended private message to wife and Sky Sports host Natalie Sawyer.)

Well now our very own squeaky clean Luke Donald is in the doghouse. Not for broadcasting a photo of himself in the buff. Sorry ladies.

The World No.2 took to the social media site to vent at Gil Hanse’s re-shaping of the 18th at TPC Boston – home of this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship.

“Nothing quite like hitting my best shot of the day into the last and walking off with a bogie [sic],” he wrote. “What a terribly re-designed green #sourtaste”

But then it went terribly wrong. Straight afterwards, a message intended for a friend was sent as a tweet and suddenly the whole world was seeing a side of Donald we’ve never really been privy to before.

“Hanse is a c*ck!” he wrote, before quickly realising what he had done and deleting the tweet.

And then we saw the side of the 34-year-old we’re more familiar with.

“I made a mistake, unfortunately. I sent a message that was not meant to go out on Twitter, and I take full responsibility,” he said.

“I realised it immediately, tried to delete it and tried to move on. Unfortunately, it got caught up there, and such is life. I didn’t mean to put it out there, and I apologise to anyone I offended, especially Gil Hanse.”

Donald also said he’d more than likely take a break from the site.

“It’s a powerful tool and you have to be very aware of it,” he added, but you’ll be pleased to know he stood by his opinions regarding the course.

“I’m still not that keen on it,” he said. “I think the Tour has done a great job in terms of making the course a lot better. But the design in that hole is a bit severe.”

Anyway, I don’t really know why I’m still writing. You all headed to Google as soon as you read “Hayley Williams” and “topless”…
