Benross has been winning a loyal following among club golfers looking for well-made equipment at an affordable price for years. It doesn’t shy away from using good quality materials and its partnership with well-respected shaft company Graffalloy and leading grip manufacturers Golf Pride underlines its commitment to investing in its products.

It’s range for 2008 is packed with innovations in both design and performance, as it shows in its two new iron models, the Benross VELOCT Combo irons and the Benross Tri-Mass irons.

The new cavity-back VELOCT Combo irons have taken all that was good about last year’s VX Combo iron, and simply added more forgiving features to make it a great club for players who need help in getting the ball airborne. Key components include an Anti-shock Cartridge System, consisting of a polyurethane insert, which provides more forgiveness from off-centre hits, while a deep and low centre of gravity helps improve launch conditions. Improvements have also been made to the bounce angles of the extra wide sole to make it easier to hit from all lies.

The standard set comprises 5-SW, although 3- and 4-irons are also available. Shaft options include Graffalloy ProLaunch Platinum graphite shaft or True Temper Dynamic Lite steel shaft, with Golf Pride DD2 Red grips. Price: £269 (graphite), £229 (steel), £249 (6-SW graphite ladies).

The Tri-Mass irons, which are an updated and reworked version of the VX5 irons, incorporate Benross’s unique Trimass weight positioning system and an undercut cavity construction with thin face technology. Key enhancements have been to increase the clubhead’s MOI, with more weight being located in the heel and toe – courtesy of two poly-carbon weight plugs to minimise distance loss from off centre hits.

Progressive weight distribution is evident throughout the set, which combines with a progressive top line thickness to make longer and mid irons easier to hit. The refined power pad delivers additional power where required. Price: £299 (3-SW graphite), £249 (5-SW steel).
