JULIO CESAR may already be a national hero but the Brazilian shot-stopper could also be a legend for thousands of Your Golf Travel customers who stand to be paid out £1.1 million on golf holidays should the hosts win the World Cup.

As part of a pre-World Cup promotion in the month leading up to the tournament’s kick-off, YourGolfTravel.com, the world’s largest golf travel retailer, pledged to refund the cost of all holidays to customers who nominated the winning nation.

Tournament favourites Brazil gave their supporters plenty of anxious moments against Chile. Among them was Brixton’s Brad Palmer, whose party of eight golfers are hoping to travel free to La Cala Resort on the back of a Brazil victory.

“After booking our golf trip to Spain through Your Golf Travel and selecting Brazil in the promotion, we’ve all been meeting up to cheer them on throughout the tournament,” he said.

“There were a few heart palpitations on Saturday night against Chile, but luckily for us they prevailed in the shoot-out - thanks mainly to Julio Cesar’s two saves. If they end up going all the way and we get our free holiday, I daresay we owe Mr Cesar a pint or two!”

But not everyone will be adopting the gold and green. Should Lionel Messi inspire Argentina to a third World Cup title, Your Golf Travel will fork out a cool £400,000 in free holidays to its customers. Germany will also have their share of supporters with £100,000 in refunds riding on their success.

While Brazil are firm favourites at 11/4 with bookmakers to snare the trophy, according to Ross Marshall, chief executive of Your Golf Travel, the tournament is still wide open.

“Brazil only scraped through against Chile and now have to face Colombia, who have been one of the teams of the tournament so far. They could cause the hosts a few headaches this weekend. Netherlands and France have also been impressive, while it would take a brave man to rule out Argentina or Germany.

“Regardless of who wins, we hope to have brought even more excitement to this World Cup for all of our customers, particularly after England’s early exit from the tournament.”
