Two more golf clubs in the United Kingdom have been forced to close down despite the surge in golf participation up and down the nation during the coronavirus pandemic.

Allestree Park Golf Course in Derbyshire, England, has revealed it will be closing down permanently at the end of December 2020, and the news has saddened a number of locals, according to the Derby Telegraph.

"As if this year has not been bad enough what terrible news," said a local golfer. "Really enjoyed playing that course many Happy memories with many different friends. Can still run every hole through my memory. Sad sad day."

The 18-hole Harry Colt-designed course was run by the local council, who had wanted to sell the municipal venue due to it being "operated signficantly below capacity and at a deficit on a consistent basis which was unsustainable."

According to the council, four bids were received to run the golf course, but none of them were able to demonstrate they were viable.

It is now expected that the golf club, which was founded in 1930 and formed as Allestree Park GC in 1948, will return to parkland.

Letham Grange Golf Club in Angus, Scotland, has also officially folded and closed down to the public.

According to reports, all of the club's remaining funds will be donated to worthwhile causes such as the Letham Grange Junior Golf Development Fund, which is run by the Angus County Golf Association.

The closure marks the second Scottish golf venue to be shut down in the space of two months following the closure of Sterling-based Brucefields Family Golf Centre.
