Tour pro set to play in PGA Championship despite injury: "I’ll get on with it!"

A Tour pro is set to play next week's PGA Championship despite his "niggling injuries."

As all the top stars in men's professional golf get together in Rochester, New York for the PGA Championship next week, one player will be there despite his "niggling injuries."

Multiple players have already withdrawn from the season's second major that's set to begin 18 May at Oak Hill Country Club.

Will Zalatoris, who finished runner-up in a playoff last year when the tournament was played at Southern Hills Country Club, is missing the entirety of the 2023 season after undergoing back surgery.

Likewise, Tiger Woods, who put up a valiant effort in Augusta, Georgia to make the cut at The Masters, later underwent his own ankle surgery that is keeping him out long-term.

LIV Golf's Martin Kaymer missed much of the beginning of his early LIV season, and despite playing in this week's event in Tulsa, has reportedly withdrawn from next week's major.

Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth withdrew from this week's PGA Tour event in Texas, a tournament in his home state that he regularly attends.

However, he was listed in the field list posted by the PGA Championship earlier this week. Spieth notably needs a win at the PGA Championship to complete the career Grand Slam.

And it appears as though the American won't be the only one coming off of a recent injury next week as Scotland's Robert MacIntyre says he's been struggling with injuries all season.

The 26-year-old was forced to withdraw from last week's Italian Open on the DP World Tour with a back strain, despite being the defending champion.

However, speaking during a media day for the Scottish Open scheduled for later this year, MacIntyre assured reporters that he'd still be teeing it up next week in Rochester.

“I’ve seen the right people and am doing the right things. So I’ll get on with it."

He added:

“It’s far better. I tried my best when I was out there (in Italy). On the Wednesday morning, when I woke up I could hardly move, just from the way I’d slept. I’ve been in for physio yesterday and this morning and it’s feeling far better.

“If I’m being honest, I push as much as I can. I’ve had niggling injuries already this year, most recently my arm, and pushed through that. I pushed as much as I could on this one."

A solid result next week at the PGA Championship could also help MacIntyre's chances to make the European Ryder Cup team. The tournament is set for late September in Rome, Italy.
