If you have achieved the correct amount of rotation from the arms and shoulders and the trail elbow has started to fold correctly your watch face (if you wear one) on your lead wrist will be pointing away from you with the clubface matching up to the lead wrist position almost pointing vertical.

WATCH: HOW TO AVOID THE SHANKS LIKE POULTER

The clubshaft should be parallel with the floor and also parallel with your ball to target line. The lead shoulder at this point is still almost parallel with the target as the body has resisted turning too at this point. It is after this check point that the body completes its turn to the top of the swing.

If the body turn happens too early the club can start to work too much behind you. Try to work on using this exercise to achieve the correct takeaway position in front of the mirror before gradually going to the range and completing the backswing. Then gradually start hitting balls from this pre set position.

Maybe start with the ball on a small tee peg as it will be a great test of your co-ordination. By starting as you mean to continue with a solid takeaway it will give you a great chance to build a solid on plane golf swing.

Start slowly and remember perfect, productive practice creates results. Good luck!
