Strauss and junior take to the Par-3 course at Burhill Group track

Strauss hits the Heights at Wycombe

For many of us, Christmas is about spending time with the family. For many of us golfers, it’s about spending time with family on the course.

And particularly when you’re someone like England cricket captain Andrew Strauss, who spends many months in various corners of the globe, it’s important to make the most of that time.

So that’s exactly what the double Ashes-winning skipper did this week when he enjoyed a round with his son at Wycombe Heights ahead of his team’s upcoming matches against Pakistan.

Strauss, as keen as footballer Wayne Rooney to see his offspring succeed on the links, enjoyed the facility’s highly-acclaimed Par-3 course – billed as an ideal, relaxed course for families to gain confidence while learning to play the game.

General manager Russell Stebbings said: “Andrew Strauss, along with many other parents, make use of our Par-3 Short Course during the school holidays to give their children a friendly introduction to the game of golf, before progressing onto the Main Course.

“With holes ranging from just 77 yards up to 157, it is the perfect place for young children to start out and for the more accomplished golfers to sharpen their short game skills.”

Strauss, who has played in 89 Test matches for England and scored 6,340 runs and whose colleagues won BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year last week, will lead England against Pakistan in the UAE through January and February.

“This is the second time in a month that we’ve welcomed an international sporting star,” added Russell. “Earlier this month Stoke City and England striker Peter Crouch was here – our regular golfers are joking that the centre’s becoming a celebrity hotspot.”

Strauss carded no sixes on the par-3 course, which hopefully won’t be the case when faced with the Pakistan bowling attack...
