Justin Rose hits SHOCKING SHANK during Arnold Palmer Invitational first round

Justin Rose hit one of the worst shanks of his career during the opening round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill on Thursday.

Starting his day on the back nine, Rose opened his account with a birdie, but followed up with a bogey at the next.

The 576-yard par-5 12th was Rose's next challenge - his third hole of the day - and after splitting the fairway with his tee shot, he tried to reach the green with his second.

Rose found the greenside bunker and what happened next would have been an embarrassing moment for amateurs, let alone a major winner and Olympic Gold Medalist.

The Englishman's third shot went flying out to the right in what has to be one of the worst shanks of his impressive career.

Rose managed to find the green with his next, but two-putted for a bogey six in what should have been a birdie hole for the 40-year-old.

"It's comforting to know that almost 25% of my bunker shots are better than that," said one golf fan in response to the video on Twitter.

Following his nightmare shank, Rose went on to par the next four holes, before adding another disappointing bogey to his scorecard at the 17th (his 8th) and made the turn 2-over par.
