Cameron Young's resting facial expression has led to accusations that he's perennially grumpy.
But apparently he's a sweetheart underneath, according to fellow PGA Tour pro Will Zalatoris.
"He's the grumpiest nicest person I have ever met," Zalatoris told GolfDigest about the PGA Tour's reigning rookie of the year.
Zalatoris added:
"He's the type of guy who can shoot a low number and could be complaining, but I love him. He's got a heart of gold—one of my favourite people in the world."
Patrick Cantlay is another player in the bracket you would consider stone-faced, much like LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka.
Cantlay - who did not consult Tiger Woods before hiring Joe LaCava - previously said of this:
"I understand that's my look. I try and be natural. So I try and be how I am all the time. And that's kind of how I am all the time."
"But I feel like if I tried to be any way else, it wouldn't be me. I'd be trying to force it. So I just try and be me out there. I definitely am focused and intent on what I’m doing. And I think that’s part of me and I think that’s part of why I have success."
Young is reportedly all too aware of his reputation.
He told the publication:
"People think I'm more upset than I am. I don't smile a ton on the golf course, but that's just my way of keeping myself in a mental headspace where I can do my job."
He added:
"People don't realize, sometimes, that this is your job. I love golf, and I love playing competitively, but it is a job, and I take it seriously. Sometimes smiling and waving to the crowd isn't my first priority."
Despite his obvious talent Young is yet to win on the PGA Tour.
He posted a T-7 at The Masters but finished outside the top-50 in the two most recent events on tour.
Young is not in the field for the AT&T Byron Nelson.
