Tiger Woods injured in CAR CRASH and being treated in hospital

Tiger Woods has been involved in a major car crash and been transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed in their post that Woods was "extricated from the wreck with the 'jaws of life' by firefighters and paramedics," however, it was later made clear this was not the case and that Woods was extricated through the windshield by an axe.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Department posted the following on social media this evening: 

"On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7.12am, LASD responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. 

"The vehicle was travelling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage. The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick 'Tiger' Woods.

"Mr Woods was extricated from the wreck with the 'jaws of life' by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.

"The traffic investigation is being conducted by investigators from LASD Lomita Station."

LASD Lt. Michael White has told reporters that Woods' injuries are non-life-threatening.

Woods had been in LA on a two-day shoot with Golf Digest and GOLFTV.

He was said to not be hitting any balls on Monday but just giving on-course lessons for celebrities.

Woods' agent Mark Steinberg told Golf Digest: "Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries. He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support."

The 15-time major champion was interviewed by CBS Sports' Jim Nantz on Sunday evening at the Genesis Invitational, a tournament he was hosting. 

Woods told Nantz that his plan was to return to competitive PGA Tour action at The Masters, but that he was unsure whether it would happen or not as he continues to recover from a fifth back surgery. 

Social media noticed that Woods did not look or sound particularly good during the broadcast.
