PGA Tour pro Hideki Matsuyama caught one of the unluckiest breaks imaginable during the second round of the Wyndham Championship.
Hideki Matsuyama caught one of the unluckiest breaks we've seen in recent memory during the second round of the Wyndham Championship.
Matsuyama was battling hard to make the 36-hole cut at this point and started his second round so-so, notching one birdie and one bogey through his first five holes at Sedgefield Country Club.
He started on the back nine and his round threatened to unravel when this happened.
Fortunately, Matsuyama is a highly-skilled golfer with a green jacket in his wardrobe so he managed to escape with a double bogey at the par-5 15th.
But it could have been so much worse. It probably should have. This is the type of situation that makes you want to pack up and go home.
Matsuyama laced his drive 290 yards down the left-centre of the fairway before placing his approach, 222 yards out with water looming, straight into bunker protecting the green.

This is where things got interesting as Matsuyama was presented with an awkward stance as his golf ball was way above his feet.
After taking a stroke, Matsuyama's ball popped up but but didn't actually go forward.
Instead, his Srixon Z-Star XV settled in one of his giant footprints.
The commentary from PGA Tour Live really did the moment justice.
"Hideki...able to get a stance."
"Oh my gosh."
"And there we go, I don't know what is going on this morning."
"Get me out of here now"
"Wow, that is so cruel"

Matsuyama then two-putted for a double before marching off to the next tee.
Should Matsuyama not make the cut, he can rest assured knowing that he will make it to the postseason given that he's ranked 56th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Only the top 70 players advance to the three playoff events which culminate in the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.
