The Garmin Approach S62 golf watch is not just a product that can be used on the golf course. As well as the many innovative golf features it has, it can also serve your everyday life.

With the Wind Feature, PinPointer, Green View and Ask Caddie via the Garmin Approach app, your game could see a large upward trend if the product is used to its full potential.

The Shot Scope V3 GPS watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch were other recent entries to the market that have caught our eye, but this item from Garmin has the features to be at the top of the pile.

The Garmin Approach S62 golf watch is another hugely impressive product from a brand that also produced the popular Garmin Approach R10 Launch Monitor.

What are the main features of the Garmin Approach S62 GPS Golf Watch?

The Garmin Approach S62 acts as the big brother of other Garmin products such as the S60, the S42 and the S40. This watch is slightly bulkier than its predecessors which was expected with a host of features and data packed in.

You can connect this golf watch to the Garmin Golf app. The app has features such as Ask Caddie and shot-tracking which allows you to analyse your game.

You need to play a minimum of five rounds to collect enough data to work with. After you have submitted five rounds while connecting with the Garmin Golf app, it can offer club suggestions and guidance.

The Wind Feature is another part that needs to be connected to the app. Once you've done this, your screen will show you the wind direction on the hole. This is a feature rarely seen in other golf watches.

The PinPointer feature is another which is rarely seen in other products. If you are on a blind hole, or you need to recover from a bad drive, the PinPointer will guide you in the direction of the flag.

The Green View feature allows you to adjust the pin position on your screen. Whether the pin is at the back or on the front left of the green, this feature lets you adjust this on the screen so you have an accurate yardage.

This watch also comes with general features unrelated to golf. It tells you your heart rate, the number of steps you've done in a day and you can also receive text messages

How can the Garmin Approach S62 GPS Golf Watch improve your game?

The Ask Caddie feature on this watch is extremely helpful for golfers who struggle with club selection and course management. Banking data in the app allows the golf watch to guide you around the golf course.

The Wind Feature is also helpful because it eliminates any uncertainty you have about the wind direction. You are now able to judge your club selection and aim based on an accurate reading of the wind.

The PinPointer is a very unique feature of this golf watch. Although you're unlikely to regularly use this guide, blind shots will now be made much easier as the arrow on the screen tells you where the pin is.

With some golf watches, they can take four or five minutes to connect to your golf course. The Garmin Approach S62 only took a matter of seconds which is very impressive. It is a trustworthy item that you can rely on to give you accurate yardages.

Performance

When GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge took this product out at Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate, he put each feature to the test to see how it aided his performance.

When Alex found himself in between clubs, he used the Wind Feature to help his decision. Straight away, the golf watch came to his rescue and helped him to decide which club to hit when he was unsure.

Although this golf watch loads your golf course quickly in areas with poor signal, it can prove difficult to connect to the Garmin Golf app on your phone. Alex experienced this issue and it can become time-consuming. This is a potential problem when trying to link your shot data to the app.

As soon as you hit a shot, the watch asks you what club you used. When you then go to your ball, the watch will tell you how far you hit this shot on the top of the watch display.

As the microphone in the watch tracks each shot, it can struggle to pick up chips and putts. These shots aren't as loud as driver or iron shots, but this is an issue across the board and not an issue exclusive to the Garmin Approach S62.

When you finish a hole, the watch vibrates and asks you to input the score. It asks you how many putts you made and it also asks you if you hit the fairway. This is how the watch banks so much data.

Verdict

The Garmin Approach S62 is an expensive product, but if you utilise each feature and enter your data into the Garmin Golf app in every round, it offers significant potential for game improvement.

It is a smartwatch that can be worn off the golf course too. The general lifestyle features allow you to use this product in everyday life, so it isn't restricted to the golf course. This adds a little more value to the product.

If you only use this watch for yardages to the green on the golf course, you shouldn't pay £479.00. The item is a sum of all its parts and each feature should be used to maximise the improvement it can offer to your game.

The Wind Feature, PinPointer, Green View and Ask Caddie features are very useful, and with the general lifestyle innovations, this watch can become a significant part of your everyday life.
