No. 2 adidas Z-Traxion Tour
Z-Traction better grip than Garcia!.

No. 2 adidas Z-Traxion Tour: £99.99
Colours: White/black, white/molasses

When I received these handsome shoes from Adidas, as worn by Sergio Garcia, I told my contact there that I hoped they gripped better than the Spaniard!

At the last count the young Ryder Cup wizard was gripping and re-gripping his club 19 times before striking the ball, which was driving most of us golf-watchers bananas.

Fortunately he saw the funny side of my wisecrack and assured me the shoes would be sturdy underfoot even in the most slippery of winter conditions.

They may not have cushioned my feet as well as the Black Widow softspikes fitted to the FootJoy range but they do not suffer the same clogging in damp grass and mud, for which FootJoy have had to develop a special brush.

Thirty players are currently using the distinctive shoes on the European Tour, including Ernie Els, Paul McGinley and Ian Poulter and combined with the Z-traction imprint on the soles and the square-edged cleats they provide a solid base for the golf swing.

Leather-lined, they are warm and comfortable and with adiprene waterproof technology kept my feet dry.

However, I will keep them chiefly for the drier months as I'm reluctant to allow them to get discoloured through the winter.

Verdict?:

A good-looking show that does the job well with the price-tag you'd expect.

Golfmagic rating: 8.5/10
