Ryan Fox WITB July 2026: Everything in the bag of the new Open Champion

Ryan Fox's triumph at the 154th Open Championship was momentous for a host of reasons, but for his longtime equipment supplier Srixon, the 39-year-old's victory carried special significance.

While the Japanese company is firmly entrenched as one of golf's big five equipment manufacturers, it often finds major success hard to come by on account of its relatively small staff team.

Fox's victory is particularly important for the brand, as the New Zealander used not just a full suite of Srixon irons and Cleveland wedges, but an unreleased Srixon driver too – the first victory for a Srixon metalwood at a major since Brooks Koepka's PGA Championship win in 2023.

Driver & 3-wood: Srixon ZXi RKT

Fox delivered a massive win for Srixon drivers at Royal Birkdale, giving the brand its first driver victory at a major for almost seven years and getting the brand's new driver, the ZXi RKT, off to an absolute dream start in life.

The ZXi RKT, which is yet to be released at retail, was unveiled on tour trucks last month, and details on the technology they're packing is still relatively scarce. What we do know is that Fox had both a ZXi RKT LS driver in the bag for his win, as well as a standard ZXi RKT 3-wood — both fitted with Fujikura's ever-popular Ventus Black TR shaft.

Irons: Srixon ZXi

Much like fellow Srixon players J.J. Spaun and Keegan Bradley, Fox incorporates several of Srixon’s latest ZXi model irons throughout his bag to suit his multi-faceted game.

Opting like many others to employ a 3-iron off the tee at Royal Birkdale, his longest iron came in the form of the ZXi5+: an oversized prototype version of the ZXi5 players' distance iron. His 4 and 5-irons were standard ZXi5s, and from his 6 iron down to the pitching wedge he plays the more player-oriented ZXi7 Mk II.

All of Spaun's irons, with the exception of the 3-iron, come fitted with True Temper’s long-favoured Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts.

Wedges: Cleveland RTZ

As with most of Srixon’s players, Fox opts for Cleveland wedges to maximise his short game, gaming a full suite of the brand's most recent RTZ wedges for optimal control and spin.

The Kiwi plays both a 50 and 56 wedge in a mid-bounce option for versatility around the greens, while also keeping a low-bounce 60 degree in the bag to maximise shots off tight lies. 

Putter: PING Anser

A purist when it comes to his putting, Fox drained the winning putt in confident fashion, using a classic PING Anser blade as he did so.

Despite trends signalling that mallet putters are very much taking over golf, Fox's victory is a reminder that there's still very much a place for blades in the hands of the right player.
