It’s as if the world’s most popular design went under Scotty’s microscope for a complete overhaul to emerge with a statement that says: I’ve been making putters my whole life to bring this one to anyone bold enough to step up.

Many people think Scotty Cameron produces putters which are head and shoulders above the competition and it’s easy to see why.

To start with the appearance of the Select Newport 2.0 is beautiful. The blade is finished in a sexy black with the emphasis on the three famous Scotty Cameron dots which are housed on the back of the putter. This putter transcends golf – it's a work of art!

Soft off the face but with good ball speed – that is what I’m looking for in a putter. Scotty Cameron isn’t a fan of inserts and he hasn’t used one on the Select Newport 2.0 which was going to make my preferred putter feel difficult but somehow he has managed it.

The milling pattern on the face of the putter gives it a feel of an insert and the ball came off the face as fast as any. It has a true roll and although I spend most of the morning giving this flat stick a bash I didn’t see any bumps or jumps on the greens.

The great feel had me making a smooth stroke which was aided by a well-balanced putter. If you’re not happy with the balance of the putter you can manipulate the weights to find a setup just right for you.

Verdict

One of the best putters on the market but you’ll have to pay for it. It offers a great feel and promotes a smooth stroke.
