McIlroy and Neegaard-Petersen both carded third rounds of 68 to move to 13-under par for 54 holes at the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

Neergaard-Petersen is looking to capture his first DP World Tour title, while McIlroy is going for the 21st of his DP World Tour career.

A win would see McIlroy move into the top 10 for all-time wins on the European Tour.

McIlroy is not only looking to win an outright record fourth DP World Tour Championship, but also a fourth straight Race to Dubai.

The World No.2 needs to finish just second alone in order to guarantee the seventh Race to Dubai title of his career.

Should McIlroy see out the Race to Dubai, which is now expected given his position, then he will move just one away from all-time Order of Merit record holder Colin Montgomerie.

McIlroy memorably completed the career grand slam at The Masters in April.

He then added second Irish Open at The K Club before helping Europe win the Ryder Cup in September.

McIlroy also won further titles at Pebble Beach and Sawgrass on the PGA Tour.

A DP World Tour Championship win and resulting Race to Dubai title would cap the year of all years for McIlroy in 2025.

Tyrrell Hatton still has a shot to ruin McIlroy's parade though as the Englishman lurks one shot off the pace.

Hatton will need to win the DP World Tour Championship and then hope McIlroy slides down the board finishing worse than a tie for eighth.

Marco Penge also had a chance to win the Race to Dubai at the start of the week but the Englishman is out the race now as he looks on from nine shots off the pace at 4-under par.

Hatton is joined by a logjam group of players in a tie for third on 12-under par including Tommy Fleetwood, Laurie Canter, Angel Ayora, Matt Fitzpatrick and Rasmus Hojgaard.
