The annual stop is one of the DP World Tour's classic events with a rich past.
Multiple major champions Gary Player and Ernie Els are among those who have made their mark on the tournament over the years.
Else, 56, is among the 156-man field this week along with several other home hopes such as Dean Burmester, Thriston Lawrence, Daniel van Tonder, Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace.
America's Patrick Reed is the pre-tournament favourite given he has already won twice this season. Spanish youngster Angel Ayora is also expected to mount a challenge.
