Cameron Smith announces latest LIV Golf signing ahead of third campaign
Cameron Smith has confirmed the latest player to join his LIV Golf side as the rival league ramps up preparations for their third campaign.
Cameron Smith has confirmed Matt Jones will play for his Ripper team in the 2024 LIV Golf League.
Jones was one of five players who were out of contract at the end of the 2023 campaign in which Talor Gooch was crowned the rival league's individual champion and Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers claimed the team honours.
There were rumours Smith's side were trying to lure fellow Aussies, former World No.1 Jason Day and former Masters champion Adam Scott, to his LIV side but both players appear more than happy with staying put on the PGA Tour.
Day, who is rocking a fresh look these days after leaving Nike for Malbon, has made the claim he wants to return to the World No.1 position and win another major.
Scott, meanwhile, has an important job to do on the PGA Tour's policy board.
The 43-year-old is helping the Tour, along with Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth, strike an agreement with LIV Golf's financiers.
It is hoped the deal will ultimately end the disruption that has been dominating men's professional golf for two years.
Jones has played in every LIV tournament since June 2022. His best finish came last year when he posted an outright seventh in Tucson.
Other than Jones, Smith also has Marc Leishman on his roster. It remains to be seen who will fill the fourth and final spot.
Elsewhere, there are rumours Jon Rahm has chosen Kieran Vincent to be on his side.
Vincent booked his spot in the 2024 League via LIV's qualifying school. Rahm's team will also be called Legion XIII, according to this report.
