Thomas Pieters left stunned after rowdy LIV Golf fan screams ‘Get in the hole!’

Thomas Pieters was left visibly stunned after a rowdy spectator unleashed a huge ‘Get in the hole!’ shout as he attempted a short birdie putt during the third round of LIV Golf New York on Saturday.

Pieters was standing over a four-footer for birdie on the 11th hole at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster when the bizarre moment unfolded.

The Belgian calmly rolled his putt towards the cup and watched it disappear into the heart of the hole.

As the ball was sent on its way, a spectator beside the green produced a surprisingly loud "Get in the hole!"

When the ball then dropped into the cup, the fan followed it with a famous Ric Flair "woooo". 

Pieters immediately paused and turned towards the source of the noise, seemingly unable to believe what he had just heard.

The LIV Golf star then appeared to sarcastically ask the fan whether he was OK.

Despite the distraction, Pieters continued his round and eventually signed for a 1-under 70.

That moved the Belgian to 5-under par for the tournament and left him tied for sixth heading into the final round.

However, Pieters is a considerable distance behind the leader.

Torque GC captain Joaquin Niemann carded a third-round 70 to reach 14-under par, although his advantage was cut significantly after Smash GC's Harold Varner III produced the round of the day. 

Varner fired a superb 65 to climb to 12-under par, reducing Niemann's lead to just two shots heading into Sunday.

Majesticks GC co-captain Lee Westwood is also in contention at 10-under par, while Tom McKibbin and Sergio Garcia complete the top five on 7-under par and 6-under par respectively.

For Pieters, the incident with the spectator provided one of the more amusing moments of an otherwise solid day on the course.

His round of 70 keeps him firmly in the mix for a fourth top-10 finish of the season, although he will need a substantial final-round charge to put pressure on the leaders.

Rahm and DeChambeau endure difficult weeks

Elsewhere, two of LIV Golf's biggest names are enduring surprisingly difficult weeks at Bedminster.

Jon Rahm sits at 3-over par, while Bryson DeChambeau is even further back at 7-over par. 

Rahm carded a 73 on Saturday, with DeChambeau an improved 70. 

The pair are the only players still capable of winning the season-long Individual Championship, with Rahm currently holding the advantage with just two events remaining.

Rahm is also chasing a remarkable third consecutive Individual Championship title after joining LIV Golf in 2024.

While Niemann and Varner are battling for victory at Bedminster, Rahm's attention will also be firmly fixed on the bigger prize as the season reaches its climax.

But on Saturday, it was Pieters' reaction to one particularly enthusiastic spectator that provided one of the day's more unexpected moments.
