"What's he ever done?!" PGA Tour winner slams Talor Gooch's Masters…

Six-time PGA Tour winner Rocco Mediate has slammed LIV Golf's Talor Gooch after his comments surrounding The Masters.

Gooch, 32, told Australian Golf Digest on Tuesday that should Rory McIlroy complete the career grand slam this April, then the major needs an asterisk next to it as a result of many LIV Golf players not being eligible to compete at Augusta National.

He told the publication

"If Rory McIlroy goes and completes his [career] grand slam without some of the best players in the world, there's just going to be an asterisk. It's just the reality. I think everybody wins whenever the majors figure out a way to get the best players in the world there."

Gooch found himself inside the top 40 before he left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf in 2022.

He won three times on LIV Golf last season and also won the individual season-long championship.

But with LIV Golf remaining shut out of receiving valuable Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points, Gooch - who finished T34 at last year's Masters and then missed the cut at both the US PGA and The Open - finds himself well down the list at 449th in the world.

That means he is ineligible to compete in the season's first major at The Masters.

Gooch's comments have certainly ruffled plenty of feathers in the golf world.

The American then sent a fiery response to Barstool Sports golf reporter Dan Rapaport where he elaborated further on this thoughts.

While few players have since responded to Gooch's latest remarks, six-time PGA Tour winner Mediate has and he's ripped into the 2021 RSM Classic* champion.

Mediate, who famously lost to Tiger Woods in a playoff at the 2008 US Open, said on his SiriusXM show:

"So if Rory wins The Masters there should be an asterisk... I wonder why that is?! Everybody that belongs in The Masters, all the past champions that are on LIV are playing. Is it because he's not in? What has he ever done? What has he ever done?! The fact that he was the best player on LIV last year is an embarrassment. Fact. So he's won one tournament on the PGA Tour does that mean he can count that whenever the hell that was? No one cares. So please, he just needs to be quiet, go about his business, take all his money. Just stop it. To say something about Rory, are you kidding me? Are you absolutely kidding me? It's embarrassing. LIV should be going 'dude, you need to shut up, just shut up, we'll handle this'. All the guys who should be at Augusta National, guess what, they will be."

Former Masters champion and now CBS announcer Trevor Immelman also took aim at Gooch on Twitter.

McIlroy is speaking to the press ahead of this week's Cognizant Classic at The Palm Beaches later today, so keep it locked to GolfMagic to find out what the Northern Irishman has to say about Gooch's comments where a Masters asterisk is concerned.
