Golf world mourns death of Australian golfer Jessica Bang, aged 18
The young professional golfer died after suffering a brain haemorrhage while in Thailand.
The golf world is mourning the death of promising young professional Jessica Bang, who died Thursday aged 18 after suffering a brain haemorrhage in Thailand.
Bang collapsed on August 1 while preparing for a tournament and was taken to a Bangkok hospital, where she underwent brain surgery.
She remained in intensive care on life support for several days, with her family by her side, before sadly passing away.
The WPGA Tour of Australasia confirmed her death and paid tribute to a player who had made a significant impression in her short professional career.
“The WPGA Tour of Australasia and the broader Australian golf community is deeply saddened by the passing of young Tour member Jessica Bang in Thailand,” the tour said.
“Jessica was an outstanding young talent who made a significant impression in her short time on the Tour.”
The WPGA Tour of Australasia added: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the WPGA Tour of Australasia and the broader Australian golf community are with Jessica’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved her at this incredibly difficult time.”
Bang earned her place on the WPGA Tour through Qualifying School at the end of 2025, following an impressive amateur career that included victory in the prestigious Queensland Amateur.
Her professional career then got off to a remarkable start.
In February, Bang won the Ford Women’s NSW Open Regional Qualifying Event at Moss Vale in just her fifth professional start.
The victory also earned her a place in the NWS Women’s Open on the Ladies European Tour, where she subsequently missed the cut.
Despite her young age, Bang had already begun establishing herself as one of Australian golf’s promising emerging talents.
Her sudden death has brought a heartbreaking end to a career that had only just begun, leaving the golf world mourning a player whose potential had been clear from the outset.
