Haeran Ryu wins first major title after stunning return at KPMG Women's PGA

South Korea's Haeran Ryu captured the first major of her career after producing a composed final-round performance to win the KPMG Women's PGA Championship at Hazeltine.

The 25-year-old took a slender one-shot advantage into Sunday's final round and never relinquished control, carding a two-under-par 70 to finish at 13-under par overall, two shots clear of fellow South Korean Ina Yoon, who also closed with a 70.

The victory is Ryu's first major title and the fourth LPGA win of her career.

The triumph is made even more remarkable given it came in her first tournament following a six-week absence after undergoing a medical procedure.

Ryu, the 2023 LPGA Rookie of the Year, has now won at least once in each of her first four seasons on the LPGA Tour and becomes the sixth different South Korean player to lift the KPMG Women's PGA Championship since 2015.

After opening the championship with a one-over-par 73, Ryu also made history by becoming the first player to win a women's major after trailing by more than 10 shots following the opening round.

"It feels like a dream come true, I came close before, but today I got it," said Ryu.

"I just worked so hard with my coach and everybody. I trusted that my game was good enough." 

Canada's Brooke Henderson and the Netherlands' Dewi Weber shared third place on 10-under par, while Americans Auston Kim, Alison Lee and Allisen Corpuz finished tied for fifth at seven-under.

World number one Nelly Korda was unable to continue her remarkable run after arriving at Hazeltine with victories in two of the season's first three majors.

A closing 73 left the American tied for eighth on six-under par, matching her worst finish of an otherwise outstanding 2026 campaign, which already includes four LPGA Tour victories and two major titles.
