Incredible Tommy Fleetwood mural unveiled as Southport gears up for The Open
Scottsdale Golf are ringing in The Open celebrations with an eye-catching tribute to Southport's own.
With Tommy Fleetwood seemingly on the brink of a historic first major victory, few venues could be better suited to a maiden Open triumph than Royal Birkdale.
A native of Southport, just a few miles down the road from this year's host venue, Fleetwood routinely comes into the conversation whenever The Open lands on the windswept coastline of England's north west.
And with the FedEx Cup champion having finally broken his PGA Tour-winning drought at the end of last year, many once again are asking whether or not he can finally get over the hurdle and claim an Open Championship for the ages.
In celebration of one of its most famous sons, Southport & Birkdale Sports Club has revealed an incredible mural to welcome Fleetwood home.
Produced in collaboration with Scottsdale Golf, the mural was put together by famous Merseyside street artist Paul Curtis, who detailed the process on his Instagram.
The mural will form one of the centrepieces of a takeover by Scottsdale at Southport and Birkdale, which will turn the sports club into the largest community fan festival in the area.
A main stage will feature live music, DJs, guest Q&As, competitions and entertainment throughout the week, with a giant screen showing the live golf and World Cup football.
A pop-up driving range will host Long Drive and Nearest The Pin competitions, with prizes to be won all week. Fans will also have access to a host of food and drink pop-ups, merch giveaways, interactive challenges, and tour fitting opportunities with the likes of adidas and L.A.B golf.
