Adam Scott on a breakthrough between PGA Tour and LIV Golf? "Don't hold your breath"
Former Masters champion Adam Scott says golf fans 'shouldn't hold their breath' over a potential deal between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf's financiers.
Adam Scott appears to have indicated talks between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf's financiers are effectively over.
The PGA Tour have been involved in discussions with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund since June 2023.
But since then no deal has come to pass despite rumblings on more than one occasion an agreement was on the verge of being announced and even intervention from the White House.
The PGA Tour asked American president Donald Trump to get involved and, in February, several meetings were held in the Capitol to try and break the impasse.
Scott, who serves as a player director, along with Tiger Woods and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, met with LIV's chairman, mastermind and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
The PGA Tour said talks were 'constructive' but Golfweek reported Al-Rumayyan left the meetings fuming given the North American circuit refused to budge in accommodating LIV's demands.
The Guardian reported the PIF offered to invest $1.5bn into PGA Tour Enterprises on the condition LIV's team element remain untouched.
Scott told reporters before the Wyndham Championship that golf fans 'shouldn't hold their breath' over a potential deal anytime soon.
"There's really been no developments since earlier this year," he said. "So, I would say, don't hold your breath.
"I think it's pretty clear that the guys who stayed at the PGA Tour made a choice to play, let's say, PGA Tour-style golf, and most of them probably would have had the opportunity to play LIV-style golf.
"So, they've made their choices and there's kind of a divide in what people want to do."
One important figure who could be involved in any future discussions if they are opened is Brian Rolapp.
The former NFL executive was named as the aforementioned Monahan's replacement earlier in the year and started officially this week.
Scott said he has been impressed by what he has seen from the new chief executive.
And he appears to believe Rolapp has more pressing matters than talks with their noisy rival.
"With Brian stepping in, a lot of that's going to fall onto his desk now," Scott said when asked what characteristic he really likes about the 53-year-old.
"I think that he needs some time to kind of really get up to speed and understand what's going on with that.
"And yeah, I mean, look, his credentials are obviously excellent on paper, but I have a few things that I really liked about Brian.
"I think like his personality from the little bit that I know of it, like his calmness to him.
"I know he's really excited to take on this role going forward, but he has a very calm nature about him, you know, to me, which was one of the guys involved, I thought I quite liked that.
"I think he's coming in at a very interesting time in the professional game and I think that calm demeanour's going to serve him well."
