Ludvig Aberg and Bob MacIntyre make notable equipment changes at Charles Schwab Challenge
European Ryder Cup stars Aberg and MacIntyre make eye-catching putter switches at Colonial.
European Ryder Cup stars Ludvig Aberg and Robert MacIntyre have both made notable putter changes at this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
The equipment switches were first reported by GolfWRX's Alistair Cameron during Thursday’s opening round.
Aberg, 26, was spotted gaming a new Scotty Cameron Phantom 3, marking a significant move away from the blade-style putters he has favoured throughout his professional career.
The Swedish star had previously been using an Odyssey Ai-One #1 putter, although reports suggest he has experimented with different lofts and head configurations in that model during the 2026 season.
The switch to a mallet-style Scotty Cameron represents the biggest putter change of Aberg’s career to date as the PGA Tour star searches for improved consistency on the greens.
Meanwhile, fellow European Ryder Cup player MacIntyre, 29, has also opted for a new flatstick at Colonial.
The Scot has moved into a Scotty Cameron 9.5R after previously using a TaylorMade Spider Tour X Black putter.
According to GolfWRX’s Cameron, MacIntyre worked closely with the Scotty Cameron team to create a custom-milled face, while also shortening the plumber’s neck to increase toe hang and better suit his stroke.
MacIntyre’s latest equipment tweak comes just weeks after he switched golf balls from the Titleist Pro V1 to the Pro V1x.
Both players have enjoyed solid starts to the 2026 PGA Tour season but are still searching for their first victories of the year.
Aberg, who started this week as the pre-tournament favourite, currently sits 13th in the Official World Golf Ranking and sixth in the FedEx Cup standings, while MacIntyre is ranked 15th in the world and 29th in the FedEx Cup race.
They each have two PGA Tour titles to their names.
MacIntyre began brightly with a round of two-under 68 to move four shots off the early pace, and pleasingly he ranked inside the top 10 for strokes-gained putting in the first round by gaining more than two shots on the field.
Aberg is still out on the course and is two-under for his round.
