Steven Fisk claimed his first PGA Tour title at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

The 27-year-old American hit nine birdies in a final-round 8-under 64 to reach a total score of 23-under par.

He pulled away to finish two shots clear of South Africa's Garrick Higgo, who had led after 54 holes at The Country Club of Jackson.

Higgo went toe-to-toe with Fisk all day and it looked as though the pair were headed for a sudden-death playoff.

But Higgo missed a three-foot putt for birdie on the par-4 17th to allow Fisk - who had made his three -  a relatively stress-free walk up the last with a one-shot lead.

He capped off his week in style with a birdie on the 18th and was reduced to tears as his wife and caddie hugged him on the green.

Fisk has now secured a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and an invite into next year's Masters Tournament at Augusta National.

"It feels pretty darn good," he told Sky Sports' David Howell. "I've been dreaming of this moment my whole life.

"I came out here today with an attitude that nothing was going to stop me from what I wanted. I just felt like I was going to be standing here right now before I started.

"[I have] self belief. Grit. I know I'm good enough. I thought I could do it. Sometimes you doubt yourself but, I don't know, like I said I know I'm good enough.

"To have job security is pretty nice. It's been a long, hard year."

Elsewhere, Rasmus Hojgaard, who was part of Europe's winning Ryder Cup team, finished in a share of third place on 19-under.

Hojgaard was a rookie at Bethpage Black and was the only player not to secure a point in the biennial contest.
