Caroline Wozniacki marked her return to Wimbledon this week with a light-hearted social media post, just days after her former fiancé Rory McIlroy became part of one of the tournament's standout moments.

The former world number one tennis star shared a series of photos from the All England Club on Instagram alongside the caption: "The grass @wimbledon is always greener."

Wozniacki and McIlroy were one of sport's highest-profile couples after beginning their relationship in 2011.

They announced their engagement on New Year's Eve in 2013, but the relationship came to an abrupt end just a few months later when McIlroy called off the wedding plans during a phone call.

In a statement released in May 2014, the now six-time major winner and grand slam champion accepted full responsibility for the split, saying: "The problem is mine."

McIlroy went on to marry Erica Stoll on 22 April 2017 in a lavish ceremony at the historic Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland.

The couple briefly appeared to be heading for divorce after McIlroy filed a petition in Florida in May 2024, but they reconciled weeks later.

His attorney subsequently filed a notice to dismiss the divorce proceedings in June 2024, and the couple remain married.

Wozniacki, meanwhile, is married to former NBA All-Star David Lee.

The couple began dating in 2016 before tying the knot in June 2019, and they are now parents to three children together.

The 35-year-old Dane was among the familiar sporting faces to visit SW19 during a week that also saw McIlroy take in the action from Centre Court with Stoll.

The Masters champion found himself in the spotlight after Novak Djokovic acknowledged him during an on-court interview following his second-round victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic said during his victory speech: "Rory, what a beautiful jacket. Is that a Masters jacket? It must be. Round of applause for Rory for the Masters, please.

"I want that jacket. We'll play for it. This jacket for that jacket — we'll play tennis! No golf."

European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald and former U.S. Open champion Justin Rose were also in attendance.

The 24-time grand slam champion thanked the golfers and their partners for spending the day courtside, adding that their support meant a great deal.

Djokovic has continued his pursuit of a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title this week.

His third-round victory over Arthur Rinderknech also saw him draw level with Roger Federer's tally of 105 men's singles match wins at the Championships.

Afterwards, Djokovic said: "To be able to make history in this sport is a huge honour and privilege, particularly here.

"I am not interested in 105 or 106. I am just trying to win the match on a given day. I was quite stressed out and had more tension than usual, but sometimes you just have to find a way to win."

Although Wozniacki was back at Wimbledon during the Championships, it is unclear whether she attended Djokovic's latest victory.

The Dane enjoyed a distinguished career that included reaching world number one and winning the 2018 Australian Open, although Wimbledon proved to be the only Grand Slam where she never advanced beyond the fourth round.

After retiring in 2020, Wozniacki returned to the WTA Tour in 2023 before stepping away again following the birth of her third child.

Last year, she suggested another comeback is unlikely as she prioritises family life.
