Shane Lowry admits disaster finishes contributed to "disappointing" PGA Tour season
Shane Lowry has reflected on a disappointing season on the PGA Tour.
Shane Lowry has admitted he struggled to get over throwing away two brilliant opportunities to win as he reflected on a "disappointing" season on the PGA Tour.
Lowry came into the 2026 season riding high off his heroics at the Ryder Cup in New York.
The 2019 Open champion kicked off his campaign in the Middle East and led the Dubai Invitational standing on the 72nd hole of the tournament, only to find the water at the 18th and make a costly double-bogey to lose by one.
Two months later Lowry looked set to end a four-year winless drought on the PGA Tour but he blew a three-shot lead with three holes remaining at the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches.
Lowry followed that near-miss with two consecutive missed cuts and, whilst he was in contention at The Masters, his season fizzled out and the golfer was knocked out of the play-offs last week.
"End of a disappointing PGA Tour season," Lowry wrote on Instagram.
"In truth not winning early in the season hurt and lingered for several months afterwards."

Lowry will take a short break before returning to the sport at the Irish Open in September.
His Ryder Cup teammates Robert MacIntyre, Sepp Straka, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are also playing the DP World Tour event at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel.
European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald will also tee it up in Doonbeg.
"I'm happy where my game is now and have an exciting part of my season ahead," he added.
"A few weeks off now to prep for a run of DP World Tour events and the start of my Ryder Cup qualification campaign at Doonbeg."
Lowry also needs to end the year strongly to ensure he can qualify for next year's signature events on the PGA Tour.
He missed out on qualifying automatically by not finishing inside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings.
Lowry can qualify for the lucrative events, though, by getting inside the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
The 39-year-old, once ranked as high as 10th, has slipped to 53rd.
