Scottie Scheffler surged into a share of the lead after firing a flawless 8-under 64 on day two of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Scheffler, 27, carded a 69 at Spyglass Hill on Thursday which saw him lie in the middle of the pack heading into the second round at famed Pebble Beach.

But the World No.1 proved his class on Friday with a flawless round that featured eight birdies including a tramliner on the par-3 17th.

Scheffler now finds himself at 11-under par thru 36 holes and in a tie for the lead with Sweden's in-form Ludvig Aberg and Belgium's Thomas Detry.

Aberg hit an equally impressive 7-under 65, highlighted by an eagle-three at the 2nd, while first-round leader Detry added a steady round of 70.

Scheffler is going in search of his seventh PGA Tour title but his first at Pebble Beach.

Aberg is looking to pick up his second PGA Tour title, while Detry is looking to follow in the footsteps of last week's winner Matthieu Pavon by earning his maiden title.

Should Detry win the event he would become the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour.

Pavon last week became the first Frenchman to win on the PGA Tour.

The Frenchman is also in the hunt for back-to-back wins on the circuit after progressing nicely to 9-under par for the tournament.

Pavon is in tied fifth as it stands alongside two-time US PGA champion Justin Thomas and Emiliano Grillo.

Patrick Cantlay could be the man to give the leaders the most to think about over the weekend, however, as the American likes just one stroke behind on 10-under par following a round of 70.

Cantlay found the rocks with his tee shot down the par-5 18th but he still managed to salvage a par.

The former FedEx Cup champion is bidding to win his ninth PGA Tour title and his first since August 2022.

England's Matt Fitzpatrick had progressed serenely to 9-under par but he made a disastrous double-bogey six on his final hole to fall back into the pack on 7-under par.

Rory McIlroy once again struggled to find his best form. After carding a 71 on day one despite having moved into the lead on 6-under par at one stage in the round, McIlroy returned to shoot a dismal 74 at Pebble Beach.
