Wyndham Championship: Michael Brennan and Beau Hossler share lead after dramatic final round
Hossler and Brennan lead the way at Sedgefield Country Club heading into the final round, despite two weather delays on Saturday.
Beau Hossler and Michael Brennan hold a share of the 54-hole lead at the Wyndham Championship following a Saturday filled with drama and delays.
The third round was suspended at 5.22pm local time due to lightning, and after returning for just 14 minutes, the players were forced to stop playing once more.
But despite all the interruptions, Brennan held his nerve to fire a stunning 63 to surge to the top of the leaderboard on 16-under par, a score that was later matched by his compatriot Hossler, who went round in 66.
Hossler, who has yet to win on the PGA Tour, held the outright lead on 17-under par after 15 holes but he would drop a shot coming home on the 16th.
Tom Kim also fired a 63 to vault up the leaderboard and move one shot off the pace on 15-under par in solo third.
Alex Noren and Alex Smalley both carded rounds of 65 to move into the top five on 14-under par.
Davis Thompson arguably had the most eventful Saturday of all the players on the leaderboard.
The American made an albatross on the par-5 5th to kickstart his round, and then broke his driver on the 14th.
Thompson remains firmly in the mix for the title at 13-under par in solo sixth.
Elsewhere, England's Jordan Smith is five shots back, yet he made an incredible hole-in-one on the 16th, the first at that hole since Joseph Bramlett in 2022.

Hossler and Brennan set for final round battle
Brennan will be aiming to deny Hossler a first PGA Tour title on Sunday, and on current form he fancies his chances.
“Today was nice,” said Brennan, who is seeking a second win on the circuit in 10 months.
“I made a few really long putts. You're not gonna do that every day, but, I'm, I'm playing solid.
“Really hitting the ball pretty good and, and rolling the ball nicely on the greens, and so just trying to kinda do a lot more of that tomorrow.
“It's been great that my scores have gotten lower every day, and I think if I continue that trend tomorrow, we'll be doing all right.”
The low round of the day went to Nico Echavarria, who shot a remarkable 62, which featured six birdies and an eagle, leaving him in a tie for eighth at 11-under par.
Race to make the Playoffs
Sunday’s final round will also have ramifications regarding the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Hossler, Brennan, Kim, Noren and Smalley will all make it through to the Playoffs based on current projections, but of course a lot can change on Sunday.
Thompson will another low score on Sunday to crack the top 70 and secure a spot in the Playoffs though as he's projected to finish just outside.
Smith currently finds himself 64th in the standings, which should see him safely through to TPC Southwind.
Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka is going to miss the Playoffs as the former World No.1 is well out of contention at 3-under par, which positions him outside the top 90 in the FedEx Cup race based on current projections.
Koepka needed to finish solo fourth or better to make the FedEx St Jude Championship.
