Sentry R2: Tyrrell Hatton sinks 96ft eagle putt in bananas (!) finish
England's Tyrrell Hatton fired a career-low 11-under 62 at The Sentry in Hawaii.
Tyrrell Hatton fired his career-low score on the PGA Tour on day two at The Sentry in Hawaii.
The Englishman carded an 11-under 62 to reach 15-under par on Kapalua's Plantation Course.
Hatton, who helped the Europeans wrestle back the Ryder Cup in September, finished birdie-birdie-birdie-eagle.
The round of 62 sees Hatton move into a tie for second and just one stroke behind World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, who carded an equally impressive 9-under 64.
Hatton's only blemish came at the par-4 14th where he dropped a shot having duffed a greenside chip.
One reporter asked Hatton post-round if he had low expectations given his lengthy time away from the game after the biennial dust-up.
"Yeah, but still equally frustrated at bad shots," he said.
He continued: "If I'm being honest, body didn't feel great, and tee to green wasn't, didn't feel amazing.
"I had a mad day on the greens. Every putt I seemed to look at went in, which is a nice feeling. Hopefully that continues over the weekend."
Hatton's bogey came at one of the easiest holes on the golf course.
His tee shot ended up left near the green and he was still playing from the fringe for his third. Things didn't go to plan.

He recovered quickly by making birdie at the next hole. His eagle at the last was from a whopping 96 feet.
Hatton said: "Yeah, it was a nice way to bounce back after making bogey on 14. Just one of the easiest holes out here and, yeah, definitely pretty frustrated walking on to the 15th tee.
"But, yeah, nice to birdie that and 16, 17.
"Then the one on 18, it was about 90 feet or something, that's just a bonus.
"[I was] just hoping to roll it up somewhere close and, yeah, thankfully, the flag got in the way and the ball fell in the hole."
If Hatton were to win it would be his second PGA Tour victory. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in 2020.
Scheffler is bidding to win The Sentry for the first time in his career.
The World No.1 started slowly on day two with a bogey at the par-3 2nd but he then drained eight birdies and an eagle (par-5 4th) thereafter to shoot a blistering round of 64 and move into a narrow one-stroke lead on 16-under par.
Scheffler was earlier this week voted Player of the Year for 2023.
Sungjae Im and Brendon Todd are tied with Hatton on 15-under par in a tie for second.
Viktor Hovland eagled the 18th to vault to 14-under par.
