What Brooks Koepka (and others) need to do to reach the PGA Tour's play-offs

Brooks Koepka has work to do if he is to reach the PGA Tour's play-offs. 

The five-time major champion enters this week's Wyndham Championship ranked No. 86 in the FedExCup standings, outside the top 70 required to qualify for the FedExCup play-offs, which begin next week with the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. 

That means Koepka certainly needs a high finish at Sedgefield Country Club this week to extend his season.

A victory would guarantee his place in the play-offs, while a runner-up or solo-third finish would almost certainly provide enough FedExCup points to climb inside the top 70, depending on results elsewhere.

A finish outside the top five would likely leave Koepka needing significant help from players around the cu-toff line to avoid elimination. 

Projections indicate the final qualifying number is expected to fall near 580 FedExCup points, leaving Koepka with substantial ground to make up in the season's final regular-season event.

Koepka isn't the only big name at risk of missing out on the FedEx St. Jude Championship. 

Jason Day's game took a turn for the worse after his top 20 finish at The Masters, with the Australian struggling with a back injury. 

Former U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley has also been struggling. Whilst he has only missed one cut, Bradley has gone the entire season without posting a top 10. 

Tony Finau is also in trouble. The big American began has finished T40 or worse in his last five starts. He also missed the cut at the Rocket Classic. 

And Jackson Koivun, who earned his first win two weeks ago at the 3M Open, is currently the bubble boy. 

Koivun, though, has only been on the PGA Tour for a few months, so don't bet against the 21-year-old advancing all the way to the Tour Championship.

As for Koepka, his return to the PGA Tour this season after four years with LIV Golf has been inconsistent. 

Through 15 starts, he has recorded just one top-10 finish - a tie for ninth at the Cognizant Classic - and has struggled to generate enough points during the summer stretch of the schedule.

He was in the field for last week's Rocket Classic but withdrew from the tournament, citing a personal reason. 

At the other end of the FedEx Cup standings, Scottie Scheffler leads the way. 

The 30-year-old has only won once this season, but has amassed nine top-three finishes. 

Scheffler has a comfortable lead over England's Matt Fitzpatrick. Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Chris Gotterup, Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Aberg round out the top 10.
