Awkward! Brandt Snedeker forgets player's name during Presidents Cup interview

Team USA captain Brandt Snedeker was left scrambling for words during a live interview after appearing to forget the name of one of his own players at the Presidents Cup.

Snedeker was speaking to NBC Sports' Cara Banks ahead of Saturday afternoon's foursomes at Medinah when the awkward moment unfolded.

Banks asked the 45-year-old American captain how he had changed his strategy following Team USA's disastrous Friday foursomes session, in which Geoff Ogilvy's International side swept all five matches to take a commanding lead.

The Americans had begun to fight back on Saturday morning, winning the fourballs session 2.5-1.5 to reduce the deficit to three points.

But when Snedeker attempted to explain his changes, he appeared to completely lose track of the name of one of his players.

"Yeah, we threw a couple of wrinkles in there, you know, obviously going with C.G. and, um..." Snedeker began, referring to Chris Gotterup.

He then paused before admitting: "Sorry, my head's spinning a little bit right now, going with C.G. and, uh..."

With Snedeker seemingly unable to recall the name of Gotterup's morning partner, Banks stepped in to help.

"Cameron Young," she reminded him.

"Thank you very much," Snedeker replied.

The moment quickly caught the attention of golf fans online, with one X user sarcastically posting: "Impossible to be more dialed in than Snedeker."

Snedeker made a controversial decision with his afternoon selections, opting to bench World No.1 Scottie Scheffler for the foursomes session.

For his part, Snedeker explained to the Golf Channel that Scheffler had "the weight of the world on his shoulders" trying to carry Team USA and he felt it was time the four-time major champion was lifted up by his teammates. 

The decision came against the backdrop of Scheffler's persistent struggles in alternate-shot team golf.

His Presidents Cup foursomes record stands at 1-8-0, while his Ryder Cup foursomes record is 0-4-0.

Instead, Snedeker chose to put Sam Burns, who had been playing alongside Scheffler for all three previous matches this week, alongside Wyndham Clark.

Burns and Clark went on to lose 3&2 to Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee. 

Gotterup and Young were sent out together again in the foursomes, and delivered the peformance of the day with a commanding 6&4 victory over Adam Scott and Sungjae Im.

Despite a mini fightback from the hosts on Saturday, Ogilvy's Internationals find themselves three points clear heading into the final day. 

The contest will be decided by 12 singles matches on Sunday.

The Internationals are looking to win just their second ever Presidents Cup and first since 1998. 

USA are seeking an 11th straight victory on the bounce, but Snedeker's men will need their A-games if they are to overturn the deficit on Sunday. 

Donald Trump is expected to be at Medinah for the final day's action.
