Rory McIlroy fires shot at Bryson DeChambeau ahead of Ryder Cup at Bethpage
Rory McIlroy hits out at Bryson DeChambeau just days before the 2025 Ryder Cup
Rory McIlroy has ripped into Bryson DeChambeau just days before the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
DeChambeau lit the fuse earlier this summer, grinning as he said: “I’m looking forward to chirping at Rory a little bit.”
On Saturday, McIlroy hit back with venom.
"The only way he gets attention is by mentioning other people,” he told The Guardian.
"To get attention he will mention me or Scottie [Scheffler] or others."
Ouch.
McIlroy and DeChambeau's feud has been brewing over the past few seasons.
DeChambeau walked away from the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in the summer of 2022, while McIlroy stayed put and became the Tour’s loudest defender.
Since then, the pair have butted heads in golf’s biggest moments.
At the 2024 US Open, DeChambeau cashed in when McIlroy collapsed down the closing stretch.
A year later at famed Augusta National, the Northern Irishman got his revenge – beating the American in the final group and then his European Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose in a playoff to complete his career grand slam.
That Masters Sunday was frosty.
DeChambeau later claimed of McIlroy: "He didn’t talk to me at all – not a single word."
The Ulsterman's icy reply? "We’re trying to win the Masters. I’m not going to try to be his best mate out there."
Now two of golf's biggest superstars are about to collide again – this time on American soil at a brutal Bethpage Black.
The home New York crowd will be loud, hostile and firmly in DeChambeau's corner.
But you could argue that will fire up McIlroy even more.
And if fate – or the captains – throws McIlroy and DeChambeau together in Sunday singles?
Get ready. It won’t just be golf. It’ll be a grudge match.
