Ryder Cup day one pairings: Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood reunited - reaction

Luke Donald has decided to reunite Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood as Europe look to make a fast start at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Captain Donald and his United States counterpart Keegan Bradley announced their day one morning foursomes pairings on Thursday.

Bradley, 49, has decided to send out "the heartbeat of our team" Justin Thomas and the box office Bryson DeChambeau in the opening match.

They will go up against former Masters champion Jon Rahm and his LIV Golf teammate Tyrrell Hatton.

As expected, the top-ranked Scottie Scheffler will team up with Russell Henley.

They will play Sweden's Ludvig Aberg and England's Matthew Fitzpatrick in the second match.

Collin Morikawa and Harris English will play the aforementioned McIlroy and Fleetwood in match three from 7.42am.

The fourth and final match will see Patrick Cantlay, the pantomime villain of the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy, rekindle his partnership with Xander Schauffele.

They will play Scotland's Robert MacIntyre and Norway's Viktor Hovland.

Call with sick Seve changed everything for Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy was as candid as ever as he spoke about how much the Ryder Cup means to him.

This will be his eighth appearance since he made his debut 15 years ago at Celtic Manor.

McIlroy explained this morning a conference call with the late, great Seve Ballesteros to the European team two days before his debut changed how he felt about the Ryder Cup.

The Northern Irishman, famously, described the Ryder Cup as an "exhibition".

How times have changed.

What's been happening today?

Several European players held their news conferences this morning.

Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Sepp Straka, Shane Lowry and Robert MacIntyre all offered their thoughts ahead of the dust-up.

First up was Viktor Hovland, who revealed he'll just laugh off any hecklers over the next few days.

As far as the Norwegian is concerned, the gibes won't really come close to the thoughts he has in his own head
