Solheim Cup 2026: Europe defeat USA with stunning Sunday performance at Bernardus Golf

Europe reclaimed the Solheim Cup after Lottie Woad delivered the crucial point before Carlota Ciganda sealed victory

Anna Nordqvist's Team Europe have won the 2026 Solheim Cup, beating the USA 15-13 at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.

What began as a level contest at 8-8 has ended in European glory, with the hosts producing a brilliant performance in Sunday's singles to reclaim the trophy.

England's Lottie Woad delivered the crucial point, beating Auston Kim 2&1 in Match 8 to take Europe to the required 14.5-point total and ensure the Solheim Cup would return to European hands.

Carlota Ciganda then put an official seal on victory, defeating Jennifer Kupcho 4&2 in Match 11 to cap a memorable week for Europe.

The Spaniard has also strengthened her standing among the competition's great singles performers.

Ciganda has now chalked up 5.5 points in Solheim Cup singles matches down the years, ranking her third on the all-time European list.

Elsewhere, Charley Hull got the ball rolling for Europe with a commanding 3&2 victory over Megan Khang in the first match.

The English star struggled on Friday and Saturday alongside Woad, taking just half a point together in four matches, but Hull and Woad both proved their class on Sunday with victories.

Sweden's Linn Grant was arguably the star performer of the week for Europe with an impressive 4-0 record.

Grant was joined by Alison Lee as the only players to earn 4 points this week.

Lee produced the biggest singles comeback since 2013 to defeat Esther Henseleit 1 up after being four down through 11 holes.

Europe has now won the Solheim Cup nine times, while USA has won it 11 times.

The 2028 Solheim Cup takes place at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, USA.

FINAL SCORE: EUROPE 15 - 13 USA

Reflecting on leading Europe to victory, captain Nordqvist said: "Yeah, this has just been so good. Lots of hard work, and the last two years leading up to this week. Not only from me but my back room team too. They have been amazing this week, making it so easy for the players to play."

Nordqvist added: "I was impressed with every single player and caddie showing up to the 1st ready to play today.

"There was a lot of blue on the board early and that was key. I am just so proud of the players for starting strong and finishing strong."

Clutch from Lee

It looked for all the world that Henseleit was about to put more blue on the board on the par-4 1st in Match 2, but in-form American Alison Lee had other ideas.

Henseleit missed her birdie attempt from 20 feet, and then Lee converted her par save from 15 feet to tie the hole.
