Lottie Woad's defiant message after unwanted Solheim Cup record with Charley Hull

Charley Hull and Lottie Woad have set an unwanted new Solheim Cup record after earning less than a full point from all four matches they played together before Sunday's singles.

Hull, 30, is making her eighth Solheim Cup appearance this week, while 22-year-old Woad is making her debut.

The English duo were considered Europe's star pairing when rumours emerged that captain Anna Nordqvist could put them together at Bernardus Golf.

As it turned out, it wasn't just a case of the captain giving the partnership a chance.

Woad revealed that playing all four foursomes and fourballs sessions together was always Plan A for them at the 2026 Solheim Cup.

And so it proved.

Hull and Woad played together in all four foursomes and fourballs sessions across Friday and Saturday.

Unfortunately for Europe, the partnership has looked considerably better on paper than it has in person.

Despite only turning professional last season, Woad arrived at Bernardus ranked seventh in the world, with Hull one place behind her in eighth. 

Hull and Woad were the two highest-ranked players in Europe's team, and second and third highest at the 2026 Solheim Cup behind World No.1 Nelly Korda. 

They were very much expected to provide a significant points haul.

Instead, they have earned just half a point from a possible four.

Elias Sports Bureau has uncovered an unwanted statistic for Hull and Woad after they were thrashed 6&5 by Lauren Coughlin and Alison Lee in Saturday morning's foursomes before losing 1 down to Yealimi Noh and Andrea Lee in the afternoon fourballs. 

There have now been 43 instances in Solheim Cup history of players competing in all four matches before the Sunday singles. 

Hull and Woad are the only pairing to have earned less than a full point across those four matches.

They halved their Friday afternoon fourballs match, but their other three contests ended in defeats of 4&3, 6&5 and 1 down.

While Hull and Woad have struggled, Swedish duo Maja Stark and Linn Grant have stepped up brilliantly for Europe, winning all three of their matches together to remain unbeaten at 3-0 for the week.

Their form has provided a significant boost for their captain and compatriot Nordqvist, particularly with the Solheim Cup now locked at 8-8 heading into Sunday's 12 singles.

Woad, however, is not hanging her head over the record.

"Doesn't matter who wins the points," Woad said of Europe's position heading into Sunday. 

"I would happily lose my matches if we win."

Hull has also looked a shadow of her best this week and recently admitted to Kira K. Dixon that being part of a team environment does not come naturally to her.

"I am a very individual player," Hull revealed back in April. "I'm going to openly say this, like, I'm not a team player. Like, I'm not, so it's very hard for me to be in a team environment."

Thankfully for Hull, she won't have to worry about playing alongside a teammate on Sunday.

Nordqvist has sent Hull out first in the singles against Megan Khang at 10.10am GMT.

It is a role Hull knows well. 

At the 2024 Solheim Cup, Hull also led Europe out in the opening singles match, taking on World No.1 Korda and delivering the goods with an emphatic 6&4 victory.

Europe ultimately lost that contest 15.5-12.5, however. 

America's Khang has played just two matches so far this week, holding a 1-1 record.

Woad will tee off in match eight against Auston Kim at 11.34am GMT, with the American currently 1-2.

With the Solheim Cup tied at 8-8, everything is still to play for on Sunday. 

The USA need to reach 14 points to retain the trophy, while Europe must reach 14.5 points to regain it.

Hull and Woad may have set an unwanted new record, but as Woad's comments suggest, individual records mean little if Europe can lift the Solheim Cup on Sunday.
