The Masters: Meet the rookies taking on Augusta National for the very first time.

Whilst Rory McIlroy makes the drive up Magnolia Lane for the first time as a Masters champion, several professional golfers will be making their debut trip to Augusta National.

As things stand, a total of 88 players will be teeing it up in Georgia but that number will increase slightly when the qualification period ends on 30 March at the conclusion of the Valero Texas Open.

Of the 2026 Masters field, only a select few will believe they are truly capable of slipping on the green jacket in 2026.

That includes a group of highly-talented rookies who boast a number of big wins on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

This year, there are seven Masters rookies taking part in the tradition unlike any other.

The problem is, however, that no debutant has ever won the Masters since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.

Let's meet them...

Masters rookies 2026

Marco Penge

  • Age: 27
  • Nationality: English
  • Pro wins: Six
  • Qualification route: Won the 2025 Open de España
  • Odds: Around 80/1–100/1

Anyone who has watched Marco Penge know that he is most certainly one to watch for the future.

Penge was on the verge of losing his DP World Tour card only two years ago but is now comfortably inside the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking.

The Englishman enjoyed a breakout year in 2025, winning on three occasions, and finished second to the aforementioned McIlroy in the order of merit.

His excellent year, which was highlighted by victory at the Open de España, saw his name touted as a possible candidate for Luke Donald's European Ryder Cup team.

In the end, Donald elected for continuity with his captain's picks but was a keen admirer of Penge.

Penge and his wife Sophie decided to move to the United States this year as the golfer embarked on his rookie PGA Tour season.

He missed three cuts on his first five starts but in recent weeks has begun to find his groove.

Penge finished fourth at the Valspar Championship and arrives at Augusta full of confidence.

Tom McKibbin

  • Age: 22
  • Nationality: Northern Irish
  • Pro wins:
  • Qualification route: Won the 2025 Hong Kong Open
  • Odds: Around 250–275/1

Tom McKibbin is one of 11 LIV Golf players in the field.

The youngster, who shares the same home club as McIlroy and regards the five-time major champion as a mentor, qualified for the 2026 Masters by winning last year's Hong Kong Open in emphatic style.

"It's pretty cool," he told BBC Sport Northern Ireland when asked about making his debut.

"These are the moments you dream of. The fact that Rory's defending and having the champions dinner makes it a really unique year. I am sure now that he's won the Masters he will have a lot more success there.

"I've watched the Masters on TV for 15 or so years and to finally get to play and experience it is going to be something that's really special. I'm sure I'll be absolutely nervous teeing off but those are the things that are exciting.

McKibbin's form so far this year has been slightly underwhelming in the LIV Golf League.

He is currently 34th in the individual standings and yet to crack the top 10 from five starts.

Chris Gotterup

  • Age: 25
  • Nationality: American
  • Pro wins: Five
  • Qualification route: Won the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
  • Odds: Roughly 45-50/1

Chris Gotterup arguably has the best chance for Masters success in 2026.

The American started his year with a bang, winning the Sony Open in Hawaii and backing it up with a thrilling playoff win at the WM Phoenix Open in February.

Gotterup, who has only missed one cut this season,  is now among the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

In March, he revealed that he has turned down opportunities to play Augusta National in the past because he wanted his first experience to be among the field in the major.

Gotterup decided to take his father and brother on a little excursion to Augusta and they played the Par 3 Course as well as 18 holes.

His favourite hole, Gotterup said, was the par-4 7th.

It's just like, it's so simple, but you just have to hit a good tee ball and you have to hit the right shot coming into the green,” Gotterup said. “Just visually when you step on the tee box you're like, wow, this hole is really cool looking.”

Asked if anything stood out, Gotterup said the tee shot on 18 is a lot tighter than TV gives credit for.

Ben Griffin

  • Age: 29
  • Nationality: American
  • Pro wins: Four
  • Qualification route: OWGR top-50 and PGA Tour wins
  • Odds: Around 80–125/1

Griffin enjoyed a dream season on the PGA Tour in 2025, winning three times.

His year culminated in a maiden Ryder Cup appearance for the United States at Bethpage Black.

Griffin has only cracked the top 20 on the PGA Tour once this year, and heads to Augusta National on the back off three missed cuts in a row at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship and Valspar Championship.

Rasmus Neergaard‑Petersen

  • Age: 26
  • Nationality: Danish
  • Pro wins: Four
  • Qualification route: Won the 2025 Australian Open
  • Odds: Around 200–250/1

Only the most ardent golf fans may be familiar with Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, but the Dane is a real talent.

Like Penge, he was among the players to graduate to the PGA Tour via the DPWT's 10 cards initiative.

Last December, he won the Australian Open at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club to earn his first career DP World Tour win.

One month earlier, he closed his 2025 DP World Tour season with a top five performance in Dubai.

Casey Jarvis

  • Age: 22
  • Nationality: South African
  • Pro wins: Six professional wins
  • Qualification route: Qualified by winning the 2026 Investec South African Open
  • Odds: Around 150-175/1

Casey Jarvis is making his first Masters appearance and second major championship start.

Jarvis played in the 2024 U.S. Open but didn't qualify for any of the big four in 2025.

This season, he won the Kenya Open and South African Open to earn his invite into this year's Masters.

His home open victory also saw him secure an invite into the field at this July's Open at Royal Birkdale.

Jacob Bridgeman

  • Age: 26
  • Nationality: American
  • Pro wins: One professional win (PGA Tour)
  • Qualification route: OWGR top-50
  • Odds: Roughly 70–80/1

Jacob Bridgeman is another player in red-hot form.

Bridgeman won the Genesis Invitational in February, seeing off McIlroy down the stretch at Riviera.

The American is yet to finish outside the top 20 this season.
