The 2026 Masters Tournament is so close we can taste it.

The tradition unlike any other signals the start of the men's major season and will be played over 9-12 April at Augusta National.

Rory McIlroy will return to defend the green jacket 12 months after ending his 10-year wait for a major championship triumph.

McIlroy defeated England's Justin Rose in a dramatic playoff last April, becoming only the sixth male golfer in history to complete the career grand slam.

The Northern Irishman will be desperate to win his sixth major title but will face stiff competition from world number one Scottie Scheffler, LIV Golf recruit Bryson DeChambeau and former champion Jon Rahm.

England's Tommy Fleetwood will also head to Augusta optimistic that he could finally break his major duck after finally winning in the United States at the Tour Championship.

Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Viktor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama and 2026 Players Championship winner Cameron Young are also expected to mount challenges.

Former LIV Golf recruits Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed will also believe more major glory awaits, whilst there are several young players that are beginning to find their groove.

At the time of publication, 108 players have qualified for the 2026 Masters Tournament - but only 91 are likely to play.

This number was expected to be higher as the field did previously include Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson

But both multiple major champions have withdrawn from the 2026 Masters field.

Their absence marks the first time since 1994 that neither player is in the Masters field.

Mickelson announced he is taking an extended break away from the game to deal with a "private family health matter" whilst Woods is also taking a leave of absence following his arrest on charges of driving under the influence.

Woods, 50, clipped a truck and rolled his Land Rover on 27 March.

He has entered a not guilty plea, but has left the country to seek treatment overseas.

Last Friday, Woods' private jet touched down in Switzerland.

The field for the 2026 Masters will be confirmed at the conclusion of the Valero Texas Open.

The winner of the PGA Tour event, not already exempt, will be added to the field.

Last year, the 2025 Masters field contained 96 players, but only 95 teed up as Vijay Singh withdrew injured on the eve of the tournament.
