Shane Lowry hits stunning hole-in-one to create Masters history at Augusta National

Shane Lowry produced one of the standout moments of the 2026 Masters on Saturday, making a spectacular hole-in-one during the third round at Augusta National.

The 39-year-old Irishman aced the par-3 sixth with a perfectly struck 7-iron, his tee shot taking a couple of soft bounces before rolling straight into the cup. The stunning ace sees Lowry become the first player in Masters history to make multiple holes-in-one. 

Lowry celebrated in style by punching the air and embracing playing partner Tommy Fleetwood as the crowd erupted.

It marks Lowry’s second hole-in-one at the Masters and the fifth of his PGA Tour career. 

Remarkably, it is also his second ace in as many weeks, having holed out on the second two weeks ago at the Houston Open.

The hole-in-one is just the seventh ever recorded at the sixth hole in Masters history, adding further significance to the moment.

Lowry’s growing collection of memorable aces now includes iconic venues such as Augusta National, TPC Sawgrass, and Pebble Beach — underlining his knack for delivering magic on golf’s biggest stages.

Crucially, the shot also had a major impact on the leaderboard. 

Moving from six-under to eight-under par, Lowry surged into contention as he chases a maiden Green Jacket, closing the gap on leader Rory McIlroy heading into the final round.

Lowry is looking to capture his second career major title having won the 2019 Open on home soil at Royal Portrush.
