Srixon's driver line-up has had mixed fortunes in the last few years.

While the Japanese brand retains a long and enviable list of staff players, less of the brand's tour team seem inclined to play the brand's metalwoods than it would probably like.

Of the brand's seven headline players on the PGA Tour, just three (namely Shane Lowry, Hideki Matsuyama and Ryan Fox) play a Srixon driver, meaning the ZXi range tends struggles to make noise in the market as a result.

That may well change, however, with the introduction of the biggest new update to Srixon's driver line-up for two years. The brand new ZXi RKT, as it's called, will make its debut on tour this week after being officially unveiled by Srixon on social media today.

In a manner similar to the way Titleist and TaylorMade have been dropping their new drivers this year, Srixon is giving the range a soft launch in the hands of its tour pros prior to their retail release (although it's unconfirmed whether Lowry, Matsuyama or Fox will be switching immediately into the driver).

As such, there are no official details forthcoming from Srixon yet on exactly what new technology the drivers will feature. All we can gleam is that it'll come in three variants: the ZXi RKT, high MOI ZXi RKT Max (a first for Srixon), and ZXi RKT LS, and both will feature carbon fibre crowns and moveable weights.

There are also vague references to what Srixon calls "Acousticore". This is likely to be a technology aimed at optimising the sound and feel of the drivers to make best use of the expanded carbon fibre footprint on the clubhead.

Srixon also shared a video of Lowry's initial reaction upon seeing the driver, and it's fair to say the Irishman seems impressed.
