It's time for the second men's major of the year.

The world's best golfers will descend upon Aronimink Golf Club in Philadelphia for the 2026 PGA Championship

World number one Scottie Scheffler returns to defend his title and is the pre-tournament favourite to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy for the second time in his career.

Last May, Scheffler withstood a late charge from LIV Golf recruit and two-time major winner, Jon Rahm, to capture his third major title at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

Scheffler has been in good form this season, with the American winning on his first start on the calendar year at The American Express. He has also posted five more top three finishes.

That being said, he is still yet to reach his very best form.

His biggest challenge is likely to come from Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman successfully defended his Masters title last month and, after a three-week break, returned to the sport at the Truist Championship.

McIlroy looked a tad rusty as he finished in a share of 19th at last week's signature event. He was also limping during the final round, but claimed that he's only got a blister under the nail of his big toe and "will be fine" this week.

Elsewhere, America's Cameron Young is also expected to mount a strong challenge to claim his first major title. The 29-year-old won the Players in March and backed that up with a dominant victory at the Cadillac Championship.

England's Matthew Fitzpatrick also has three victories to his name. The European Ryder Cup star won the Valspar Championship in March, beat Scheffler in a play-off at the RBC Heritage and teamed up with his younger brother Alex to claim the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The competitors in the 154-man field are competing for a large sum of money this week. Twelve months ago, Scheffler pocked $3,420,000 from the $19m purse.

The PGA of America is yet to announce the purse details for the 2026 edition of the major. The governing body tends to release that information after the conclusion of the third round.

In the meantime, see below a list of previous winners of the PGA Championship and how much they won.
