Jordan Spieth threw his appearance at the PGA Championship into doubt when he skipped the AT&T Byron Nelson, citing a wrist injury.

But according to former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost, Spieth made the journey to Oak Hill, Rochester, on 15 May.

That claim turned out to be true as Spieth has already been spotted hitting balls on the practice range. Tee times have not yet been announced, so at the time of writing Spieth's inclusion is not official, although Spieth's caddie Michael Greller was also spotted checking out the layout.

Should he make the decision to play, it would see him attempt to win the career Grand Slam once again.

One of Spieth's on-course rivals, Rory McIlroy, saw his opportunity to join that club disappear quickly with a miserable display at the 87th Masters.

If Spieth were to be successful this week, he would join illustrious company. That would be Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Gary Player

Nicklaus and Player completed the Grand Slam on their third attempts. Woods and Hogan joined the Grand Slam club on their first attempt.

For Spieth, this is the seventh time he has had a crack at history.

Spieth has not even been listed by the PGA of America for a pre-tournament press conference, which has raised further doubts about whether he will actually be in the field so we will have to keep our eyes peeled.

Spieth has struggled somewhat in PGA Championships, only posting one top-10 finish in his past six appearance.

He tied for third when Brooks Koepka, now a LIV Golf player, went wire-to-wire in 2019.

After his Masters, Spieth spoke of feeling a little bit drained.

He said:

"I came in mentally fatigued, and you overwork this week every year. I need to change my schedule up going forward to be a little sharper this week. I think that has a lot to do with it."

What do you make of Spieth's chances? Who are you backing to win the Wanamaker? Why not Tweet us your thoughts?
