How to enter the Wirral Golf Classic

Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake, which staged the Open Championship won by Tiger Woods in 2006 and will host it again in 2014, is one of the four venues for the Second Wirral Golf Classic, which takes place from September 19-23.

Entries are now being accepted to play on magnificent local links courses on Merseyside - Caldy, Heswall and Wallasey are the others -  which gives tou a chance to compete against golfers from the UK, Holland, Spain and France for £219.

This 72-hole stableford competition for  the first 300 amateurs who apply, features prizes worth more than £3,000 with the opportunity to join in on special social events, too, over five days.

Everyone plays each of the four courses for daily as well as overall aggregate prizes, with one day’s rest of their choice.

Former Childwall golfer Helen Reid, now a professional at Delfland GC, Holland says: "I'm looking forward to bringing a group of our members again to the Classic.  Most played last year and had a great time and we have a few more newcomers this year.

"The main attraction for them are the beautiful views over the rivers Dee and Mersey and the unique challenge each links presents but most of all, the warm and friendly welcome in Wirral."

Local hoteliers, restaurateurs and bars are lending their support with great offers on accommodation and eating out to further enhance the experience for competitors.

A welcome drink reception will be held at the host hotel, Thornton Hall Hotel in Thornton Hough on September 19 with the prize giving reception at Royal Liverpool Golf Club on September 23.

The event is supported by Wirral Council, the Northwest Regional Development Fund (ERDF), England’s Golf Coast and Titleist.
