Rival to Celtic Manor on the drawing board
Sir Stan has plans for another Welsh super-course
One of Wales’ most successful businessmen and charity entrepreneurs plans to build a £15 million golf course at Michaelston-y-Fedw close to the site of the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.
Sir Stan Thomas, who owns the land between Newport and Cardiff, on which the course will be built, says designs are already in place from the capital city's architects Holder Mathiasto to also build another majestic clubhouse. Part of the proposed course will run alongside the M4.
Currently, Sir Stan is planning to take control of Cardiff Golf Club and use areas of the existing course to build golf accommodation.
The biggest test for the Newport region is that although the Ryder Cup was hugely successful, weather conditions did nothing to entice an international audience to the Welsh Valleys.
However at the right price and located just 20 minutes from Celtic Manor, Sir Stan is convinced the new course will provides visitors with an extra incentive to travel to the region.
