WATCH: Tour pro nearly in tears with maiden DP World Tour victory
England's Dale Whitnell was nearly reduced to tears after claiming his maiden DP World Tour victory at the Scandinavian Mixed.
England's Dale Whitnell was nearly reduced to tears after holding on to claim his maiden DP World Tour victory at the Scandinavian Mixed.
It looked as though victory was going to be somewhat routine for the 34-year-old, given he had a six-stroke 54-hole lead.
Whitnell carved out that huge advantage after a second round of 61 at Ullna Golf & Country Club.
The World No. 308 posted a final round of 70 which included four birdies and two bogeys.
It saw him reach 21-under par, which was good enough for a three-stroke winning margin.
His nearest competitor, American Sean Crocker, threatened to catch the Englishman and posted a 7-under 65 but it just wasn't enough.
Whitnell said:
The golfer paid tribute to his fiancee and his coach, whom he didn't know was flying out for the final day.
Visibly choking up, he thanked his parents and his sponsor Callaway.

"This means everything to me!"
