Custom fitting is becoming more and more important in the game of golf. Every player you watch on the PGA Tour will have clubs that are shaped and carved around their swing path.
If you are able to get your new set of irons or your new driver or wedge custom fitted to your swing, there is no question that this will help your scores improve.
The length of the clubs, the angle of the heads and the shafts are all key considerations that custom fitters use when they watch you swing the club.
If you have an issue with your current driver and your swing favours a fade or even a slice, a custom fitting session can be used to shape a driver for you that combats your issue.
You may struggle to get height with your iron shots and hit them too low. A custom fitter can make adjustments to your new set of irons to help you find more air time in your next round.
We asked our readers how many clubs in their bag are custom fitted and we received a range of different responses. Below are some of the comments we took away from our post:
"My Mizuno irons are, my wedges are not and my TaylorMade SIM2 driver isn’t either, but it doesn’t affect my game. Could I improve on dispersion etc... probably!! But I like certain brands," one golfer said.
"All bar the putter, but haven't replaced that for years so it wasn't as much of a thing then," one player said.
"None of mine are. Every time I try and get fitted I can't hit a single good shot and I feel under too much pressure. I've managed ok so far," another golfer said.
"What good is to custom when you hold the grip higher and lower based on the distance and surface??" Another player said.
"Every one of my swings are different! What good are custom irons?" One player said.
It seems that some golfers have the majority of their clubs custom fitted bar one or two. This is quite common as there are not as many places that can fit putters as well as irons.
Some of the comments alluded to the fact that you can get fitted for every club in your bag, but this may not stop you from playing a bad round which is a point to consider.
Nonetheless, custom fitting your clubs is an exciting prospect that many golfers have evidently taken up. Although it does not guarantee good scores in the future, it significantly increases the chances when your clubs are suited to your swing path.
