So you've just been paid and you're now ready to bust a small sum on that brand new club you've been lusting after since you first saw it on GolfMagic.com a couple of months ago.

Beautiful isn't it.

THINGS TO CHECK: HOW TO SPOT FAKE GOLF CLUBS

But just before you charge into the shop, pluck it off the shelf and bang in your four digits, be sure that you have covered all bases first.

We can't stress how important it is for you to be playing a golf club that is 'right for you'...

Things to consider when buying a new golf club

We sat down with PGA professional and 2017 LDET champion Matt Nicolle from American Golf's Monument Store in London to learn the eight things that should be on every golfer's checklist before they splurge money on a new golf club.

Over to you Matt...

Things to consider when buying a new golf club

#1 - WHAT DO YOU NEED?

Before you purchase a new golf club you need to ask yourself "what part of the game am I really looking to improve?"

Identify what equipment you are looking for and ensure it reflects the area of the game you need to sharpen the most.

There are so many options on the market that it is important you narrow down that selection by looking at your game as a whole, then you can determine the best route to take.

#2 - WHAT IS GAPPING AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Knowing the gaps that you have between each golf club in your bag is important, as well as knowing how far you hit each club.

Hitting the ball a certain distance is a fundamental part of golf, so we need to have clubs where we know exactly how far they go.

This will not only help you improve quicker, but you're love for the game will increase as a result.

From longest iron to driver and from shortest iron to wedge, try and work out the gaps that you need to fill and go from there.

The golf course you play on will also give a good indication to the clubs you need in the set to play the course the most effectively.

If you're unsure, get a PGA professional to work with you on your setup.

#3 - FREE CUSTOM FITTING

American Golf offers free custom fitting on all equipment, whether it be a new putter or driver. I can't stress how important it is to get fitted for your golf clubs, especially if you take the game pretty seriously.

Using a six-step process you will find the perfect setup that is tailored to you and your golfing needs.

FEATURE: WHY CUSTOM FITTING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER IN 2017

#4 - USE A LAUNCH MONITOR

If you want to get the best out of your equipment and see your game improve quicker, it is advantageous to use a launch monitor alongside a custom fitting professional to maximise the results you get from your equipment.

Evaluating the optimal conditions that you need to hit the clubs the best is essential.
