When TaylorMade revived the mini driver in 2023 with the BRNR Mini, it set off a chain reaction that has fundamentally changed the way golfers, from pros to high-handicappers, view the longer end of the back.

Initially presented as a novelty club that leant as much on nostalgia as it did in performance, the mini driver market has grown rapidly in the last two years – these pint-sized rocket ships now widely beloved both for being stylish and incredibly easy to hit off the tee compared to a 3-wood.

As such, plenty of the golf's biggest equipment manufacturers have entered the category over the last two 18 months, offering up their own spin on the mini driver formula. Some, like TaylorMade, continue to lean into the nostalgia factor, dressing their mini drivers in retro-inspired facades, while others have taken a more modern approach.

Whichever you prefer, there's no doubt that every golfer should be looking at adding a mini driver into their bag if they're looking for a reliable, accurate option off the tee.

TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini

TaylorMade has pulled off something quite special with the R7 Quad Mini Driver. It’s a loving tribute to an iconic driver, reimagined for the modern game.

While it won’t be for everyone, for the right player it offers a compelling mix of style, speed, and precision. From its classic looks to its explosive feel and finely-tuned ball flight, this club is a standout in a growing niche.

It’s not the biggest, baddest bomber out there — but it might just be the smartest.

Callaway Quantum Mini

RRP: £489

Pros:

• Incredibly forgiving
• Surprisingly versatile despite the larger size
• Great aesthetics behind the ball

Cons:

• Some players might prefer a smaller profile
• Costs significantly more than an equivalent 3-wood

Replacing last year's highly successful Elyte Mini driver, the Quantum Mini dials down on the formula that sets Callaway's mini drivers apart, taking up a slightly larger profile while delivering all the ball speed and forgiveness to make this a reliable driver alternative.

The main upgrade in the Quantum Mini comes in the form of its Tri-Force Face, derived from the Quantum driver range combining layers titanium and Poly Mesh over an internal carbon fibre insert, further refined with the use of Ai to produce more flex and speed at optimum points across the face and produce blistering ball speeds with forgiveness and consistency on off-centre strikes. 

The Quantum is also one of the only mini drivers out there with adjustable front-back weighting, allowing you to dial in the ball flight to prioritise penetrating distance or forgiveness.

The Quantum runs a little bigger than mini drivers from other brands, its 340cc head making it more of a teebox-oriented club. Callaway has, however, introduced a new step sole with this new model, designed to improve turf interaction and make it a lot more versatile as a long option on the fairways.

Without any question, the Secret Weapon is a fantastic option for anyone like me who is struggling with their driver off the tee.

The two biggest positives with this club are its versatility, since it can be used off both a tee and in the fairway to help you reach those long par-4s and shorter par-5s, and its accuracy from the tee.

The PXG Secret Weapon Mini Driver is without question the biggest surprise packet mini driver out there in 2025 and one of the best you can buy right now.

This club can be used by just about any level of golfer, from a beginner all the way through to PGA Tour star and PXG staff player Jake Knapp.

Cobra KING TEC MINI

New for the 2026 season, the KING TEC MINI is Cobra's first foray into mini driver territory, offering golfers both a reliable fairway finder and a longer, more versatile alternative to the three wood off the deck. 

Lofted at 13.5 degrees and equipped with a fairway wood-length 43.75” shaft, Cobra hopes the KING TEC MINI can provide not just a workable option of the tee for its roster of tour pros, but a confidence-inspiring option for everyday hackers who struggle to find consistent results with the big stick.

Traditional in mindset but always keeping one eye on the future, Titleist raised a few eyebrows with its own entrance into the mini driver market this year, but the GT280 has already received rave reviews. 

Engineered to be fast, forgiving and controllable both off the tee and off the deck, the GT280 works technologies and innovations from both the GT2 and GT3 line of woods into one compact 280cc head, providing more forgiveness and speed than a fairway wood while providing a more controllable driver alternative for better players.

Priced at £459, the Titleist is one of the most expensive big-name mini drivers to hit the market thus far, but as with all things to come out of Titleist's performance labs, you get what you pay for.

How do mini drivers compare to traditional drivers in terms of performance and distance?

Mini drivers effectively sit somewhere between a driver and a 3-wood in terms of performance, offering slightly more distance than a traditional fairway wood while using a larger head profile to deliver more forgiveness. 

Being smaller than a standard driver, mini drivers will fly slightly shorter, and prioritise accuracy and forgiveness for those who want a more reliable fairway finder off the tee. This smaller profile means that mini drivers can also be used off the fairways as a fairway wood alternative.

What factors should I consider when choosing a mini driver for my game?

While there are still only a handful of mini driver models on the market, there are some key differences that can help determine which one is right for you. The most important is size, with mini drivers ranging from around 280cc in total size all the way up to the largest at 340cc. 

Larger mini drivers tend to be the most forgiving off the tee, but can be harder to hit off the fairway, while smaller mini drivers have slightly more versatility but won't be quite as forgiving from the tee box. As such, it's worth considering how you want to use your mini driver before you make a decision.

Loft is also a factor, as mini drivers come with standard lofts ranging from 11 to around 13.5 degrees. This will impact ball flight, spin and performance off different surfaces.
