GolfMagic's new Equipment Editor Tom Usher took the Max Stripe model out for a full test session both on the golf course and the putting green this week – and the results were impressive to say the least. From first pick-up to pressure putts, the Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Max Stripe delivered in spades.

Player Level

While many premium mallet putters cater to better players, the Odyssey Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Max Stripe offers broad appeal. The ease of alignment, lack of required manipulation and generous sweet spot make it an ideal option for mid-to-high handicappers looking for more consistency. That said, single-figure golfers won’t feel limited either – the neutral face and minimal rotation reward confident strokes with exceptional feedback and control. If you struggle with keeping the face square or have inconsistencies in your stroke, this putter will do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Looks and Feel

Let’s start with the visuals. 

The Odyssey Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Max Stripe model features a bold, centrally aligned white stripe, bordered by a dark matte finish. 

It’s a clever design cue that frames the ball perfectly and encourages a square setup without being distracting.

Mis-hits off the toe and heel still gave me a nice reliable roll and very solid distance control, especially on longer putters.

And crucially, putts stayed on line.

Short putts from inside 10 feet were particularly impressive. 

The Stripe alignment system helps lock you in, and with such a balanced feel, it’s easy to get the ball rolling on your intended start line. 

This zero torque putter encourages a square-to-square stroke, testament to its name, but doesn’t punish you if your path isn’t textbook.

There’s pleasingly no dead feel either – even off-centre strikes have a lively but controlled response. 

It gives you the confidence to make a free stroke and trust the face to stay stable. 

Whether you’re lagging from 40 feet or trying to save par from six, it’s one of those rare putters that consistently helps you execute.

How It Compares

In terms of overall performance, I would have to compare the new Odyssey Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Max Stripe to that of the the popular L.A.B. DF3, which had set the benchmark for zero torque putters for 18 months now. 

I would go as far to say the Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Max Stripe has now moved ahead, especially given it's a lot cheaper. 

Should You Buy It?

If you’re looking at the premium end of the putter market, the Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Max Stripe should definitely be at the top of your list. 

Yes, it’s over £350, but the build quality, technology and performance justify the price. 

This is not a gimmick-laden product – it’s a serious putter aimed at helping golfers of all levels roll their golf ball better.

GolfMagic would recommend it to players who struggle with keeping the face square, want more forgiveness on off-centre strikes and prefer a clean, mallet-style head with visual clarity.

For those willing to invest in quality, it’s simply one of the best options available in 2025.
